David Schlangen
David Schlangen is professor of the "Foundations of Computational Linguistics" at the University of Potsdam, Germany. His research focuses on language use in interaction, both from theoretical and empirical perspectives, as well as with a view on building improved and more natural human/computer and human/robot interfaces. He is co-author of over 150 technical papers, and recipient of several best paper awards. Before moving to Potsdam in 2019, he was a professor of Applied Computational Linguistics at Bielefeld University and associated with the Cluster of Excellence "Cognitive Interaction Technology". He holds a PhD in Cognitive Science and Informatics from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
Elisabeth André
Elisabeth André is a full professor of Computer Science and Founding Chair of Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence at Augsburg University in Germany, and co-speaker of the Bavarian Research Association ForDigitHealth. Elisabeth André has a long track record in multimodal human-machine interaction, embodied conversational agents, social robotics, affective computing and social signal processing. Her work has won many awards including the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize, the most important research funding award in Germany. In 2010, Elisabeth André was elected a member of the prestigious Academy of Europe, and the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. In 2017, she was elected to the CHI Academy, an honorary group of leaders in the field of Human-Computer Interaction. To honor her achievements in bringing Artificial Intelligence techniques to Human-Computer Interaction, she was awarded a EurAI fellowship (European Association for Artificial Intelligence) in 2013. Most recently, she was named one of the 10 most influential figures in the history of AI in Germany by National Society for Informatics (GI). Since 2019, she is serving as the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Affective Computing.
Hans Uszkoreit
Prof. Dr. Hans Uszkoreit is Founder and Chief Scientist of GIANCE Technologies in Beijing. He is also Scientific Director at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) in Berlin, where he is currently coordinating China activities. In a consulting function, he is serving as Chief AI Advisor for Lenovo. Before going to Beijing in early 2017, he led the Berlin site of DFKI. Uszkoreit has worked in AI for more than 30 years as professor, research leader and entrepreneur. He is Member of the European Academy of Sciences, Honorary Professor of Technical University Berlin, Permanent Member of the International Committee of Computational Linguistics (ICCL), Honorary Chairman of the European Network of Excellence META-Net and Past President of the Association of Logic, Language and Information. He has coordinated many national and international confederated projects and an international masters program in language and communication technologies. For his work on language understanding, he received two Google Research Awards. Hans Uszkoreit has co-founded several AI companies. He has also served as advisor for small and large corporations. His main research interests in AI are methods and applications of language and knowledge technologies and AI applications for enterprises. His research is documented in more than 250 international publications.
